A colourful visitor

Yesterday morning I was outside in the back yard getting all the cuttings from the other day together to take away to the dump. As I came down the back stairs I noticed in my tree a bright splash of colour. There, sitting on a branch chattering away…(or making little noises like when you rub a balloon with wet fingers) was a beautiful King parrot.
I grabbed the camera and went down to the tree, he wasn’t very worried and just watched while I pointed and clicked.
During the few years I have lived here there have been a few pairs of king parrots who come and go, usually in the autumn and then they disappear for the summer. I think I saw a female the day before ( the female is mostly green with only a tiny bit of red). They are lovely birds.
My neighbours put out seed for the birds and apart from these parrots we have cockatoos, galahs, eastern rozellas and crimson rozellas regularly visit. Luckily Melvin is so obvious when he is outside, it’s not likely that he will ever be able to stalk any of them successfully…. they usually see the big powder puff lumbering along way before he spots them!
