17 November 2007 – this weeks rambling

It’s Saturday, I got up relatively early for a Saturday. I had to go into work at 11.oo to do an upgrade on the 2 Macs we use for admin work. But before that I wanted to have my breakfast have a leisurely coffee and spend a couple of hours getting some book keeping done for CML.

The baby Magpies came by for their morning feed, they are really noisey and still a bit clumsy, very funny to watch, and they both eat out of my hand. One of them will let me stroke his chest.

I then got about an hour and a half of the book keeping done…….would have got a bit further with it if all the paper work was there and I picked up a few things that I need to ask questions about. I think I have another 8 hours of that to get through by the end of the weekend

By this time it was almost 11, so I raced out the door, I was meeting one of our Tech Support guys ,D,(well the boss really) to let him into our building and the office. He was going to put some extra memory in the Macs before I did the software upgrade and he had a few other things to do for us also……..

Well……….first hassle, I couldn’t for the life of me find my magnetic card to unlock the front door……..I madly rang people and no one answered, D was getting impatient, he had other things to do you know, I turned the inside of my car upside down, still no card. Finally I got onto someone to come and unlock, D said he would go off to pick something up from a supplier while I waited to get the door unlocked. finally I got in. I opened the Office and unplugged the Macs made space and prepared them for their new memory

Next Hassle…D came back unpacked the new memory cards only to find that 2 of them were the wrong sort The suppliers fault apparently, I gave the right specs when they were ordered. So after inspecting the older Mac, D decided that he could get what we needed from the computer fair which luckily was on this weekend and would still be open By this time it was almost 1.00pm.

I had plenty of other things I could get on with (it was my office after all and the ‘to dos’ are never ending). D got back and woopee both Macs now have 1 Gb of RAM each. I commenced installing the upgrade to Mac OS X Leopard on both machines This took about 2 hours but it was easy as all it involves is putting the upgrade dvd in the drive and clicking ‘install’ everything else happens by itself. Anyway in the mean time I had a batch of new backup tapes to label and D needed bits and pieces for the other job he had to do on our network.

Install complete…….I did a bit of customising and played with the new snazzy features and then installed the software I need for our accounting, the software which was the cause of the upgrade in the first place I might add…. ah well now I have two great machines that should give us another good 3yrs of service. By now it was a bit after 5.00pm. D was getting a headache from trying to fix a problem with email in Outlook on one of the Windows machines, so it was a good excuse to pack up and lock everything up and head home….6.30pm

I think my new glasses must need a bit more adjusting somewhere, they are making my eyes very tired, I’ve swapped back to my old magnifiers tonight and it’s more comfortable. Had leftovers again for dinner as I didn’t manage to get to the grocery store today ,lucky there was leftovers….the vegies are a bit limp and sad though

I was planning to do a couple more hours book keeping for CML tonight but by the time I had had dinner and worked out why there was a whole pile of extra stuff under my house aanndd what the extra stuff was (Kitty and Daniel are storing things here while they go live with my ex for a while to save money ) it was 8.30pm…..the wizard of Oz was on tv…so I watched I little bit of it ….so now I don’t think I can get my head around book keeping….tomorrow !!!!

This was a bit of a sad week also….I found out a couple of days ago that one of the ladies, Meg, who used to come into work to prepare a newsletter for the Parkinson’s group, passed away. She was a wonderful person and until this year very fit for her 82 years. She had a cheeky sense of humour and was very good at buttering me up to produce her mailing labels each month (not that I ever minded) and she was quite fond of a glass of champagne every now and then too . I will miss her, the funeral date hasn’t been announced yet, that will be a sad occasion.

I think Summer has arrived here already, yesterday was 31c and it was similar today, and the clouds had built up by the end of the day, but only produced a few drops of rain. Oops I’ve left the front door open to let some cool air in, I had better go and lock the security screen
