It is almost 2 months since my last blog, so time to catch up. In early February I wrote about my mothers pending move. Her rural property, “Moongamba” went on auction on 28 March and was sold at a little under what we had hoped for but above the reserve price. Phew…. settlement on the purchase of Mum’s new home at Greenway (a suburb near me) was settled on 17th April….and so the packing and moving and down sizing began!!!!!……. settlement on Moongamba was on 8th May.

As you can imagine we ( me, my mum and my sister) have been flat out sorting and packing and throwing out stuff….where did it all come from !!!….

Last weekend the furniture was packed and moved and Mum spent her first night at Greenway. I have spent every afternoon after work packing at mums and taking things to Greenway since 20 April and now for the last week unpacking and organising at Greenway. Mum has been in a daze, sad about moving and unable to get on with things. However, the move is timely, Mum can not keep up with the work that is required in a large house….we found that as we emptied the house, there were so many things that needed maintenance. It would have been a huge job if she stayed. Greenway is almost central Canberra and it is easy to get services to help Mum there and shops etc are just 5 mins away as I am also. Her townhouse is in a park like setting with open spaces and she has a view that will not be built out.
