of Mice and Melvin the Sequel and a Magpie

I spent several hours today clearing the floor of my room from all things. I emptied the cupboard floor of shoes (and No, Penny, 20 pairs of shoes is not too many
) and threw 4 pairs out. I pulled the ‘Ab swing’ thing out from under the bed, took the chair out, moved the bedside table and opened the blinds right up.
I looked behind and under and inside everything but could not find a little mouse dead or alive. I did find his calling cards ( I didn’t dream the Melvin episode) and I also found 4 toy mice ![]()
So, it’s safe to say, either Melvin caught and disposed of the mouse he lost in my room or it managed to find it’s way out. (keeping my fingers crossed on that one).
My room got a good going over and is nice and vacuumed and dust bunny free (Melvin drops a lot of fur everywhere, good thing no one is allergic!)
Ha, the other morning, about a week ago, when I woke I could hear the sound of birdy feet tapping across the wooden floor
I looked up from my bed, I can see the back door from there, and there was one of the baby Magpies. He had come in through the small gap I had left the door open for Melvin and was in the process of helping himself to Melvin’s crunchies.
I’ve had a Magpie sneak in before and they are so silly they can’t find their way out again. So I slowly got up, aiming to open the door wide so he could get out, but Melvin also heard and went to see what was there. Of course, the bird took fright and started flying around the family room, bumping into the ceiling as he went.
I quickly opened the door wide, but by this time magpie had flown into my room!
and was sitting on the end of my bed. Oh heck….the last thing I wanted was bird pooh on my bed… I decided not to go in my room and frighten him further, so there I was in my PJs quietly calling “come on Maggy Maggy, here birdy birdy” and hoping Melvin wasn’t going to chase it.
Luckily the Magpie flew from my room, bumped the ceiling a few times more and found it’s way out the door .
I ran around checking for any nasty calling cards
.. I’m pleased to report all was clear ![]()
The Magpie and his brother, Mummy Magpie and old baldy the
Dad, have all been back since to beg for some food so the experience didn’t scare him too much. One of the babies (actually they are probably teenagers by this stage) taps on the glass of the door when he visits, to make sure i know he is there ![]()

Glad you didn’t find the remains of your little hunter’s game! That is so funny about the Magpie,,,their interesting birds! Their not native here, I’ve only seen them in an aviary but enjoyed them:) Your collection of magpies sound like my collection of squirrels,,,,their funny in their own ways but very entertaining at times! Hope your weekend is going good!
Remembers when living out in the country, our cat presented us with a small grass snake in the middle of the right. Prudence wore a collar with a bell on it, the bell kept tinkling which made me get up to see what she was doing in the hallway. There she was sitting in the hallway with her paws on top of a snake. We screamed. I swear she smiled at us! However, we found the butt of a shotgun to the mid-section of a snake is a killer. We never saw another snake again. We think it mighta got in when the back door was open and hid out till Prudence came upon it. She was such a good hunter!
Laughing here!!! I have a beagle with issues but no cat to hunt for mice. I have to keep a lot of poison out for the little critters as there are fields around my little house. I hate to wake up to THAT smell…the proof you have a dead mouse somewhere LOL. I got 2 of my drawers cleaned out today–I think that is pretty good considering I have an icky virus that is keeping me VERY close to the restroom–LOL–! I hope all is going good in your world. Mom is back at the nursing center and we are hopeful that she will gain strength! As I am ill and can not chance speading this to mom, my cousin (Sharon) has been visiting her. She is a blessing to me! Huggggggggggggs, manda!!!
LOL…Gotta Love Melvin. Sooooo, muh Aussie Sis, sounds like you have lots of action going on in your bedroom! LOL Perhaps you should pick another room in the house to sleep…then again, I’m sure you’d be followed where ever you went. LOL… I still wanna trade Libby for Melvin! Hugssss for your week, Hon!!!!
