Gum trees

Last weekend I was chatting to my Canadian Sister, Leigh, about this and that… and i was saying that apart from cats, the coast, taking pictures, family etc, I really like trees! so we talked about Gum trees…. yeah yeah…weird…anyway, here in Aus, the most common native tree is the gum…Eucalyptus… there are many many varieties. As luck would have it, I have the most ugly examples in my front yard…I didn’t plant them 
Any way, last Sunday I had to go take Penny somewhere so, as it was a nice bright breezy day, on the way home I jumped out of the car and took a few pics of ‘nice’ gum trees 
.
I didn’t have time to go out bush a bit so here are the suburban varieties…actually i think these trees really aren’t suitable for suburban backyards. A lot of them are meant to grow big, they shed a lot of leaves throughout the year and especially if they are stressed or there are drought conditions. They are evergreens, but when there is not a lot of water they drop leaves, bark and whole branches

Last Sunday was a really nice day, it was cool for this time of year, quite a stiff breeze and such a bright sunlit day. This weekend, being the beginning of March, marks the beginning of Autumn, my most favourite time of year. Autumn here brings us bright clear days, warm with just the touch of cold in the air. Most years we have a bit of an Indian summer and the days in March stretch out bright, golden and warm ( mid 20C’s) This year the cooler weather is arriving early. We seem to have such big skies, as you can see in these pictures…I have not made any changes to them, they are as they were taken on the day.

Once again, you’ve enlightened me with of all things, trees! I was certain that eucalyptus came from bushes, never realizing that they grew to be massive trees!!! I have been working with eucalyptus for over 20 years making various crafts for both myself, and others. My fingers would always be green or red and sticky after working with the eucalyptus so it’s fitting to call them “gum trees”. I’m going to have to get busy and share some pictures as well. Beautiful pics Manda, but what an awesome view of the mountains & the valley! I’m with Leigh on the eucalyptus trees,,,I’d heard of trees like that but always associated it with the bushes. Love the bird! I’m always amazed by the pics of the native birds there,,,,so colorful:) We have so very few locally, that are as colorful as I’ve seen from Oz. I always enjoy your photos, you certainly have a talent for capturing your subjects! Coming up on the weekend,,,hoping yours is fun:)

Unusual looking trees. I got a big old ugly oak tree beside the house that invades the sewer line; would have it taken down but who knows how far the roots go and how much it’d cost. Such pretty skies there too (sighs)and y’all are always warm! Hopefully we’ll start warming up in the next couple of weeks; Spring is around the corner…and cloud and storm pictures will be taken (lol)!
