The birds that visit my garden
The neighbour who lives behind me and the other neighbour next door both have bird feeders in their gardens and put out seed every day for the many birds that come past. In the mornings there is a fair amount of twittering, squawking and coo-ing. There are magpies, sparrows, tiny little silver eye, asian mynas and the native one, native crested pigeons and lately some run of the mill grey and brown pigeons. There are also some beautiful parrots that visit everyday.
These pictures are not new, most have been taken over the past year or so. But all of them have been taken in my garden, mostly from my back deck using the zoom to get a closer shot. For some reason, sometimes the zoom makes the picture less clear or it could just be me, I haven’t got a stand to sit the camera on.
This is an Eastern Rozella. I find the Rozellas very difficult to capture as they just don’t stay still for long, they are usually seen in pairs
This Crimson Rozella, they are just a bit larger than the Eastern rozellas but just as figgetty. This one kept turning around on the branch in the middle of the bush, picking and preening itself and then biting at twigs, this was the best I could do he would have flown away if I came closer.
Cockatoo balancing on the power line. There are some time six or more of these big birds around the yard. In the summer they would get into the apricot tree and pull the apricots off, not to eat the fruity flesh but to get the seed out and eat the kernel, leaving pieces of apricot all over the ground under the tree.
This one is a King Parrot. They usually come back here in the colder months. This picture was taken in the Spring. They are usually in pairs. This is a male, the female is mostly green with just a few orange feathers around the breast and head. They are bigger than the Rozellas but about 2/3 the size of the cockatoo. This was a lucky shot, he seemed quite content to sit still in the tree only about 5 feet away from me.
A Galah. These birds are a bit smaller than the cockatoo, they are usually seen in small groups, they mate for life, often if one gets hit by a car, you will see it’s mate near by…very sad. They can be quite noisey and they can also learn to talk.
Another Cockatoo. The cockatoos are also very noisey, they have a dreadful squawk. Some times in the morning or late afternoon when I look out from my deck, I will see several of them flying around further down in the valley. I have also seen flocks of twenty or more grazing on the grass of the medium strip in the middle of the road!
This is the mummy Magpie that visits regularly for some food. She taps on the glass of my sliding door if I don’t notice her. She has brought 4 of her offspring to visit in the last 2 years.

What a wonderful, wonderful world!!! I’m amazed at the way you and sis are able to capture such picture perfect pics! It’s like the wild sits waiting for you to snap the picture, while they sit there posing for you. I hope, someday, I get to visit your part of the world. OMGosh!!!!!!!!! These are amazing pics!!!!!! Like Otter says…those are exotic and rare birds here in North America! People have cockatoo’s in cages in their homes, as well as parrots! VERY expensive! And you have them flying free in your own backyard! I envy that! The brilliant colors are incredible! You do have a gift for capturing them, and I love all the pics! I’m with Leigh also, would LOVE to visit your world, seems like you have a little big of magic there! Now I’m going to read your Kangaroo story I apparently missed! lol!
